PRIORITY Coastal Waters Wind Warning For waters from Torres Strait to Point Danger, including Hervey Bay. Issued at 11:25 am EST on Saturday 25 May 2013
Synoptic Situation A low pressure system over the northern Tasman Sea is expected to move eastwards during the weekend. Large south to southeasterly waves are expected to affect southern Queensland waters [south of Sandy Cape] during the weekend, resulting in rough surf conditions. A high [1032 hPa] over the Great Australian Bight will move slowly east during the next few days, extending a strengthening ridge over much of Queensland.
UPDATED Gale Warning Double Island Point to Point Danger Southwest to southeasterly winds 25 to 30 knots, reaching 30 to 35 knots offshore until late evening. Seas 3 to 4 metres. South to southeasterly swells 2 to 3 metres, reaching 4 metres offshore.
UPDATED Strong Wind Warning Torres Strait to Yeppoon Expect southeasterly winds 25 to 30 knots between Lockhart River and Cairns, to extend north to Torres Strait during this afternoon. Southeasterly winds increasing to 25 to 30 knots over remaining waters between Cairns and Yeppoon on Sunday. Seas to 3 metres outside the reef, and 2.2 metres inside the reef. Southeasterly swell 1.5 to 2 metres developing outside the reef north of Cardwell.
UPDATED Strong Wind Warning Yeppoon to Sandy Cape Expect south to southeasterly winds to increase to 25 to 30 knots offshore during this afternoon, and over all waters on Sunday. Seas 3 metres. South to southeasterly swell 1.5 to 2.5 metres developing over offshore waters today.
Strong Wind Warning Sandy Cape to Double Island Point, including Hervey Bay Expect south to southwesterly winds 25 to 30 knots, tending south to southeasterly during the afternoon and evening. Seas 3 to 3.5 metres in open waters and 2.5 metres in Hervey Bay. South to southeasterly swells 2 to 3 metres in open waters, reaching 4 metres offshore.
CANCELLED Strong Wind Warning Moreton Bay waters Winds are no longer expected to exceed 26 knots.
