Warmest night in 7 months for much of Victoria

Jessica Trevena, Monday October 13, 2008 - 18:13 EDT

Widespread cloud and warm northerly winds blanketed Victoria last night, leading to the warmest night since March for most of the inland.

Swan Hill set a new record for the warmest October night in 11 years of records, not going below 20 degrees.

Shepparton came within tenths of a degree of the record for October, possibly setting a new one, when it dropped to only 18 degrees.

Kerang topped the state, bottoming out at a sultry 21 degrees, 12 above average and only one off the all time record.

Bendigo, Echuca, Rutherglen, Seymour, Bairnsdale, Yarra Glenn, Mildura, as well as Griffith and Hay in NSW all recorded their warmest night since March. There were many others.

Tonight, temperatures will be a massive 15 to 16 degrees cooler than last night, with most of the inland set to drop well below 10 degrees now that cooler, drier air has pushed over the state behind a cold front.
