Light rain developed over most parts of Victoria on Friday but extensive drought breaking falls appear unlikely during the next few months.
By 4pm the top fall was 10mm in Portland on the west coast, already their heaviest fall in over four weeks. Melbourne picked up 3mm by 5pm but should receive close to 10mm by Saturday morning, about as much rain as they picked up through the whole of September.
The rain coincided with a gusty southwesterly change which led to rapid temperature drops across Victoria during the afternoon. Melbourne rose to a high of 26 degrees before noon, seven above average, but by 3pm was sitting on just 17. In the same period Avalon dropped from 28 to only 16.
The rain will contract to eastern Victoria overnight before clearing into NSW during Saturday.
