Storms are firing up again this afternoon over the north after a fairly widespread area of thunder and showers over the Top End yesterday.
Thunderstorms exploded right across the WA Kimberley and northwestern parts of the NT thanks largely to extreme heat and moderate instability. By early this morning, the storms cleared quickly from the Darwin coast.
Some of the rainfall picked up with storms to 9am was significant across both states. Darwin Airport received 20mm in total, its heaviest October falls in three years. Nearby, Nightcliff Pool and Mararra picked up over 40mm each.
Wyndham, in the Kimberley, picked up 44mm, the wettest October day in 8 years. The town also felt it strongest wind gust since March, getting belted by an 80 km/h gust.
Tomorrow, storms may again produce damaging gusts about the Darwin coast, but will clear with a trough.
