Sydney sizzled in another day of 30 degree temperatures on Friday, continuing one of the hottest starts to spring on record.
The temperature overnight stayed above 22 degrees in the city, our warmest October night in four years. Gusty northwesterly winds then sent the mercury to 30 degrees by 9am before we levelled out at 35 in the afternoon, 13 above the October average and Sydney’s hottest day in 19 months. It was even hotter at the Airport, reaching 37 degrees, 14 above average and their hottest day in nearly two years.
Sydney has now already sweated through five days over 30 since winter, three more than during the whole of last summer. It is also only the second time Sydney has recorded five 30 plus days this early in spring in 150 years of records.
A cooler southerly change with rain and thunderstorms will sweep north through Sydney over the weekend.
