Showers and thunderstorms are developing along the west coast of Western Australia.
The unsettled weather is being triggered by the combination of a surface trough of low pressure and an upper level trough offshore that is gradually moving towards the coast.
Extensive amounts of tropical moisture have been streaming down from the north into the trough over the last few days, resulting in substantial cloud cover.
As the trough remains on or just off the coast, easterly winds have been allowed to filter down to the coast, sending temperatures into the low 30s.
The upper trough will make landfall during Thursday, so the thundery weather will become more widespread. Most western districts are in with a chance of picking up 1-5mm from the system, including Perth.
During Friday, the trough will shift east, contracting the storms to inland parts of the state and resulting in a cooler westerly change along the west coast.
The trough will then linger over inland WA during the weekend, leading to persistent showers and storms.
