South Australia and Victoria Swelter

Paddy Aicken, Sunday October 12, 2008 - 19:39 EDT

Temperatures rose to as much as 14 degrees above average today as hot northwesterly winds blew across the country from central Australia.

In South Australia Ceduna recorded the state's highest temperature of 37 degrees, their warmest day since March this year and their warmest October day in two years. Port Lincoln to the east recorded a high temperature of 34 degrees, a massive fourteen degrees above the October average and again the highest temperature since March.

In Victoria, Avalon airport recorded a maximum temperature of 32 degrees. Aireys Inlet recorded 30 degrees, 12 above average and like in South Australia the warmest day since March.

The warm weather and strong winds have prompted a fire weather warning for Sunday and Strong Wind Warnings along much of South Australia and Victoria’s coastlines.
