Showers and storms coming to NSW

Brett Dutschke, Tuesday November 3, 2009 - 20:57 EDT

A cooler change moving through New South Wales will be the precursor to several days of showers and thunderstorms with some heavy falls possible, according to weatherzone.com.au.

The showers and storms will be mainly in the northeast of the state and later in the week, when they may even bring heavy falls. Some locations in the northeast may gain more than 100mm between Wednesday and early next week. The exact area will be more evident in the next day or two.

The cooler change is gradually turning winds from hot, dry northwesterly to more humid southeasterly which will bring the showers. These southeasterlies will become unstable at times, spawning heavier thunderstorms.

Some showers and storms will even reach west of the ranges as southeasterlies send moist air into an increasingly cool upper atmosphere.

Most of the showers and storms will be north of about Sydney, while areas further south pick up very little, generally.

It will start to dry out and warm up again from early next week, although far western and southern inland parts of the state will remain dry and relatively warm.
