A trough that has been slowly making its way north across the eastern inland will reach the NSW/QLD border on Monday, and is likely to trigger Severe storms.
Today, Sunday, storms fired up near the trough in NSW, QLD, SA and the NT, with a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for the Channel Country, Maranoa and Darling Downs districts in QLD.
As the trough moves closer to the tropical east coast on Monday, the moisture supply for potential storms will increase, raising the chance of severe storms developing.
The most likely areas to be affected are the Darling Downs of QLD and the Northern Tablelands of NSW, in the areas around Charleville, Goondiwindi, Armidale and Moree. Storms will then move towards the coast on the afternoon.
Very strong winds not far above the surface and high moisture levels could bring damaging wind gusts and very heavy rainfall with the storms.
