Hot and stormy in Adelaide

Thunderstorms rolled through Adelaide this morning, but patchy cloud cover hasn't stopped the temperature rising into the 30's for the fourth day in a row.

Adelaide residents sweated through their warmest night in three weeks with the mercury failing to dip below 20 degrees. At 6am thunderstorms rolled through Adelaide, waking a number of light sleepers just before their alarms.

The working week will be very hot as each day is currently forecast to at least reach 30 degrees. Today exceeded 30 degrees by 11am, with more heating still available. On Thursday the temperature will even rise into the high thirties, bringing the hottest day since February.

Summer-like heat and morning storms have reached Adelaide due to weak trough. This trough has directed hot air from central Australia while providing uplift for storms. Over the next few days heat will linger before a stronger trough directs a very hot air mass into Adelaide on Thursday ahead of a cool and possibly stormy change.

From Saturday Adelaide will experience cooler conditions just below the November average of 25 degrees.
