Heavy showers on the Queensland tropical coast

Rob Sharpe, Saturday February 9, 2013 - 11:01 EDT

From Ingham to Innisfail heavy showers are soaking the coast.

Ingham has borne the brunt of the rainfall with 93mm in the 24 hours to 9am this morning. In the past three days they have gained a total of 145mm. Rainfall has recently increased markedly at Innisfail with 67mm overnight.

The heavy showers are due to a weak low pressure trough that is moving over the Queensland's north tropical coast today.

Today showers will continue across this area before gradually shifting north by tomorrow morning. The heaviest falls tomorrow are likely to be from Innisfail to Cooktown with a focus on Cairns which may receive 60-80mm.

Elsewhere along the Queensland coast showers will generally be less than 15mm. Brisbane is expecting another burst of showers today before winds ease and the wet weather clears by tomorrow.
